What is a "Limited Edition"?
The term "limited edition" refers to how many prints of an image are created. It is indicated as a fraction with the individual number of a print on top (numerator) the total number of prints to be made of that image on the bottom (denominator). So "1/10" indicates that this print is the first of the edition which is limited to 10 prints. Aside from an artist’s proof (marked AP/ ) no additional copies of an image will ever be created.
When the edition limit has been reached, the negative is scratched or, in the case of a digital image, the file deleted.
Some artists refer to an edition number as the number printed in that size; thus, they may have editions of 20 (for example) of 16x20 prints, and 20 of 24x36 prints, and so on. I do not do that. My edition size refers to the total number of prints that will ever be created, and that number is not influenced by the size of the print or if the print is made on paper, canvas, metal, or any other surface.
Each print is hand signed and numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity which is also hand signed.
