India’s most charming of its megacities has to be Kolkata. Part of that charm is the city’s seeming to value the traditional over the new, at least enough to let much of the past continue where it has been banned or abandoned elsewhere. Unfortunately, if you will look at the details, this also perpetuates some distasteful aspects of Indian society that Gandhiji could not change.
